History that dates to the 15th Century

In the year 1400, Manuel Chrysoloras formed an organization of students at the University of Bologna. The purpose was mutual protection of its members against physical attacks and robbery by the unscrupulous governor, Baldassarre Cossa.

On December 10, 1869, William Grigsby McCormick, along with four of his closest friends, founded the first American chapter of Kappa Sigma at the University of Virginia.

Kappa Sigma is the largest college social fraternity in the world with more than 250,000 living members, including over 17,000 undergraduates and 300 chapters and colonies located throughout North America.
